Zuiderzeebotter (smack)

A well-known ship that has been around for ages, that grew along with the changing times and wishes of the fisherman.
This ship, with its low poop deck for bringing in the nets, was at home on the old Zuiderzee. The closure of the Zuiderzee by the construction of the dam meant hat the Botter was
doomed. One of them is the Bol, so called because it was made rounder than the Smack, which gave much more space for the transport of the catch. As the Bol was also wider, the ship was much more stable, which was a great advantage in a storm.

Many of these graceful and perfectly balanced ships still sail the waters and all are easy to recognize by the elegant pointed stems.
